Abstract:

Flood disaster is considered as a major natural hazard due to its devastatingeffects on the affected areas. Determining the flood vulnerable areas is important fordecision makers in order to perform planning and management activities. GeographicalInformation System (GIS) is integrated with Multi Criteria Decision Analysis (MCDA)used to analyze the flood vulnerable areas. The aim of this research was to provide moreflexible and accurate decisions to evaluate the causative factors for planning andmanagement of rangelands of Gilard, Damavand. So, effective factors influencing floodoccurrence in the study area was first surveyed. Some of the causative factors for flood inthe watershed such as mean annual precipitation, basin area, basin slope, drainage density, land uses and soil type were taken into account. Then, through assembling spatial anddescriptive information related to the study area and using Analytic Hierarchy Process(AHP), the criteria have been grouped and weighted. At the end, as regards of ultimateweight, the basin was classified into five classes. Results of this research show that meanannual precipitation and Sedimentation Rate with the average values of 26.5% and 2.01%had maximum and minimum effects on flood occurrence in rangeland of Gilard inDamavand, respectively.

Improving farming practices using multi-criteria decision analysis in geographic information system for Damask Rose cultivating

Lack of awareness of the critical factors involved in production of plants and sometimes, the cultivation of plants in areas unsusceptible to plant, can increase the amount of chemical fertilizer consumption in order to compensate the subsequent reduction of plant yield. This would increase environmental pollution. Thus, identifying of suitable areas where could supply plants initial needs of t...

Mapping Natural Resources Vulnerability to Droughts Using Multi-Criteria Decision Making and GIS (Case Study: Kashkan Basin Lorestan Province, Iran)

Zagros Mountains in west of Iran are covered by unique forests and rangelands. Increasing population, low level of development and high dependence of local people on natural resources for primary livelihood needs resulted in degradation of Zagros forests and rangelands. Along with these factors, since the last decade, climate change including severe drought is an important issue in the world, p...

Flood hazard zoning using geographic information system (GIS) and HEC-RAS model (Case study: Rasht City)

Rivers are important water resources for human life, but sometimes cause irreparable damages. The flood plains are fertile terrains which are endangered by flood. Flood hazard mapping is one of the basic methods in flood fighting. In order to decline flood damages, the simulation of the hydraulic behavior of the rivers during flood occurrence is very important. In this study, areas that are flo...
